Thermal baths in Podhale: which one to choose

Bania, Bukovina, Termy Zakopane and Gorący Potok. Four complexes within forty minutes, each good for something different.

In Podhale thermal baths are the fallback plan for rain and the main plan for the day after a long hike. The trouble is that all four advertise themselves in much the same way, while differing more than the brochures suggest.

Below is a practical comparison from the perspective of guests who come back and tell us how it went.

Gorący Potok in Szaflary: the closest and the calmest

From Murzasichle you will get here in about twenty minutes. It is the smallest of the four, and that is exactly its strength: it is rarely crowded, the queue for the slides does not eat the day, and prices are lower than at the larger complexes.

A good choice for a few hours, especially with small children or when you simply want to soak in warm water without extra attractions.

Termy Zakopane: the easiest after skiing

Located practically on the road from Murzasichle to Zakopane, so it is the simplest to drop into on the way back from the slopes or the trail. Compact, with a good sauna area.

It has one drawback worth knowing about: in peak season and at weekends it can get genuinely tight, because it is the nearest bath for everyone staying in town.

Bukovina: the largest sauna area

Bukovina in Bukowina Tatrzańska is the choice for adults who come for the sauna world rather than the slides. An extensive sauna area with sessions, a calmer atmosphere and fine views from the outdoor pools.

About forty minutes by car. Worth booking a whole evening for rather than dropping in for two hours.

Terma Bania in Białka: the most for children

If you are travelling with children at the age where slides are what counts, the choice is essentially made. Bania has the most of them and the largest ones, plus an extensive recreation area.

The price is the crowd. During school holidays and long weekends it is worth being there at opening time, or arriving after five, once some families with small children have left.

Practical tips

A few things that will save you trouble whichever bath you pick.

  • Buy tickets online, the queue at the desk can be longer than the queue for the slide
  • Most places charge by the started hour, so keep an eye on the clock
  • Bring your own flip flops and towel, renting always costs extra
  • You enter the saunas without a swimsuit, and in many places this is strictly enforced
  • Do not plan a hike after the baths, warm water is very good at making you lazy

And if you do not feel like driving anywhere

There are days when the very thought of getting into the car is too much. Then there is our spa area: a dry sauna, a jacuzzi and a salt cave, open daily from four in the afternoon to nine in the evening, at no extra charge and with no strangers beside you.

It is not a replacement for a large thermal bath, it is something else. The baths are for half a day with the family, our spa is for an evening for two.
